Did I Get The Best Shot?
Pioneer's PRV-9000 And The Post Group Create High Quality DVDs Quickly For Daily Show And Movie Producers
One Touch Recording and High Quality Transfers Open New Doors for Post Production
Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. is offering high quality, on-demand DVDs for time-conscious producers and photography directors. The Post Group, a full-service Los Angeles-based post-production company serving the film, television, commercial and new media communities, deploys Pioneer's PRV-9000 Pro DVD Recorder for its most demanding clients - producers and photographers of dailies and films.
Equipped with five of Pioneer's PRV-9000 Pro DVD Recorders, the Post Group serves producers and photographers who need to view film footage quickly on DVD. These clients are assured a fast way to view the quality shots they need before proceeding with production of their daily show or feature film. Once the film is shot on location, a digital master is created. Subsequently, the Post Group transfers this master into the quickly and easily viewable DVD format. In the past, the Post Group used other mediums such as VHS and 3/4" tape, which offered lower-quality video when transferred from film. As a result, the Post Group looked to Pioneer for a reliable and high quality DVD recorder technology.
"We conducted many tests on Pioneer's product in addition to testing other units from a number of leading manufacturers," said Rory Lubold, vice president of engineering for the Post Group. "Pioneer's PRV-9000 produced the best quality DVDs in addition to being faster than any other DVD recorder. Of equal importance, the DVDs created using the unit were compatible with the vast majority of the players we tested. Giving our clients the best quality product, helps them make decisions about scenes and footage quickly and more easily - Pioneer's PRV-9000 helps us accomplish this goal."
The Post Group can easily and quickly create high quality DVD-Video discs using Pioneer's stand-alone self-contained desktop unit. Usually, the Post Group begins the recording process with a 601 digital source and converts it to a firewire format. The digital format is then connected to the IEEE-1394 firewire port on the PRV-9000 to create a DVD. The process assures that the DVDs created retain the highest quality picture, allowing producers and photographers to make the best decisions quickly regarding scenes and shots. The PRV-9000 will record in real time on DVD-R (write-once) and DVD-RW (re-writable) discs with the press of a single button. In addition to DV (IEEE-1394), the PRV-9000 offers S-Video and composite video inputs, allowing the Post Group to choose from multiple recording sources.
"The PRV-9000 enables postproduction facilities like the Post Group to produce high quality DVDs by transferring directly from a digital source," said Linda Toleno, vice president of industrial video sales and marketing for the Business Solutions Division of Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. "Firewire port allows for quick digital recording onto DVD. Quality and efficiency are fundamental in the television and movie production industry, and the PRV-9000 delivers these effortlessly."
Most discs produced at the Post Group's facility in Los Angeles are seven to eight minutes in length, and contain specific shots and scenes for review while filming is still taking place. Recording to the DVD format provides random access to specific scenes and footage for longer shoots, enabling producers and photographers to select time codes or chapters to view instantly.
